Tencent Cloud will be at Cloud Expo Asia this week to showcase landmark projects and solutions that have helped the company move from fourth to fifth place in the Asia-Pacific cloud vendor rankings and firmly establish itself as one of the world’s leading players in the industry.
“We are exceptionally proud of the increased adoption and recognition of our cloud offerings in Asia,” Poshu Yeung, Vice President of Tencent International Business Group, said. “We are especially pleased to see those successes reflected in our second quarter earnings, which showed a 37 percent year-on-year gain in our FinTech and Business Services revenue.”
The projects on show extend across several of the key industry verticals the company is targeting with its cloud solutions, including financial services; telecoms; e-commerce; travel and hospitality; and internet gaming and entertainment.
From the financial services vertical, Tencent Cloud will reveal the groundbreaking digital insurance solutions developed for Singapore’s NTUC Income. Designed to improve operation efficiency, the solutions, supported by Tencent facial recognition technology, allow insurers to use know-your-customer (eKYC) embedded in kiosk to verify peoples’ identities. Other cloud-based solutions such as optical character recognition technologies and a natural language processing artificial intelligence chat bot enable people to present themselves and their identification documents just as they would when purchasing a policy from a person.
On the telecoms front, Tencent Cloud will showcase the implementation of its eKYC solution by U Mobile, a Malaysian carrier that uses the system to both onboard new customers and service existing customers. The solution has enabled the company to significantly reduce prospect and customer wait times.
Leading Southeast Asia- and Taiwan-focused online retailer Shopee is also better placed to address the needs of its customers thanks to a Tencent Cloud solution. The showcased offering, which helps e-commerce companies manage uncharacteristically high spikes in transaction volumes through a cloud-based order-processing system, has enabled the company to run highly profitable livestreaming shopping sales.
Further demonstrating Tencent Cloud’s ability to help companies manage spikes in web traffic will be its featured internet gaming and entertainment offerings. These will include the high-performance database service, AI chatbot and gaming multi-media engine behind Player Unknown Battlegrounds Mobile (PUBG) – the world’s most popular mobile game.
Also on display will be implementations for the travel and hospitality sector. This will include Tencent Cloud’s work for Dubai’s Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing, an integrated smart travel solution to help the department better understand the consumption patterns of visiting Chinese tourists and further enhance its ability to meet their needs via a WeChat mini program.
The above solutions will be on display on October 9 and 10 at the Tencent Cloud’s Cloud Expo Asia 2019 booth located at stall D11 on Level B2 of the Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre in Singapore. Information on other notable solutions from Tencent Cloud will also be available at the booth.
