Teradata announced that a large, diverse ecosystem of alliance partners have tested their solutions for compatibility and will support Teradata Database 15.10.Now being shipped worldwide, the Teradata Database delivers up to 22 percent better performance overall, with a 56 percent improvement for some individual queries compared to the previous version. The Teradata Database performance enables organizations to respond to business challenges with greater agility.
"The Teradata Database is recognized as the industry's premier database, and the major innovations establish a new standard for performance," said Oliver Ratzesberger, president, Teradata Labs. "When our alliance partners' solutions are combined with the Teradata Database, then our customers have a wider variety of analytics to propel their business initiatives."
Highlighting this development from an India perspective, Mr. Sunil Jose, Managing Director, Teradata India said, “We’re very excited about the capabilities that Teradata Database 15.10 brings to our customers in India. Organizations are under extreme pressure to deliver analyses faster and to more people than ever before. This has fueled requirements for faster and more efficient data warehouse performance to speed up business decisions and new business applications while improving system utilization. Teradata Database 15.10 does all of this and is of special significance for large consumer facing enterprises that require support for a very high quantum of analytical queries simultaneously across multiple segments. Going forward, we see a strong uptake of this offering from the telecom and ecommerce industry in India.”
Key engineering advancements increase the flexibility and improve the performance of Teradata Database 15.10.
In-Memory Optimization - Teradata Database 15.10 includes engineering advancements that deliver analytic performance and system efficiency through memory and CPU optimizations, which enable customers to seamlessly and automatically achieve new levels of analytic performance. More specifically, Teradata Intelligent Memory has been enhanced to better leverage memory and CPU with a reduced load on memory bandwidth, improved CPU efficiency, reduced I/O traffic to disk, and improved overall system efficiency.
Faster Performance with JSON Data - Teradata is the first to allow customers to natively store three JSON data formats in a single database providing faster querying performance for JSON data along with other operational and historical business data. The enhancements allow users to take full business advantage of JSON data from web applications, sensors, and Internet of Things (IoT)-connected machines. The choice of three formats includes BSON, UBJSON, and the previously available JSON format. Customers can seamlessly mix and match the three JSON storage formats based on business needs and data attributes to drive faster query performance.
World's Most Advanced Hybrid Row/Column Database - Teradata's hybrid row/column capability enhancements provide quicker access to data stored in columnar tables, which drive faster query performance for more agile business decisions. Other relational database management systems store data in rows or columns, and each method offers unique benefits, depending on the application and type of data. However, they have been mutually exclusive. Teradata's hybrid row and column capabilities allow the best of both worlds. The enhancements in Teradata 15.10 provide even faster and more precise access to the specific data needed for a query, improving performance and query concurrency.
Software-Defined Warehouse - The Software-Defined Warehouse enables organizations to consolidate multiple data warehouses into one system with simpler data warehouse management, consistent performance, security, as well as the cost-savings of maintaining a single system. Many organizations maintain multiple, separate data warehouses to meet unique business unit requirements or to comply with data privacy regulations across countries. In addition, the Teradata Database includes Secure Zones, which separates data and groups of users for each entity, with secure boundaries between them. This enables compliance with security and privacy laws that prohibit co-location of data from multiple business entities.
Data Fabric Orchestrates Powerful Ecosystem - Teradata® QueryGrid™ software enables the data fabric that turns multiple best-of-breed solutions into an orchestrated analytical ecosystem. The new Teradata Database 15.10 incremental planning optimization feature now works with Teradata® QueryGrid™ to execute queries faster when using data from other systems. For example, Hadoop data can be pulled seamlessly into the Teradata Database from a business intelligence tool. Teradata QueryGrid allows companies to overcome the limitations of using many different technologies for operational and analytical systems, which are sourced from different vendors. The data fabric weaves together multiple analytics, diverse data repositories, and disparate systems to provide business users a cohesive and uninterrupted analytic ecosystem. The data fabric puts the focus on getting answers to business questions, and not on the underlying IT process or infrastructure.
"The advances to Teradata QueryGrid software offer even better bi-directional data movement and pushdown processing between Hadoop Platforms and the Teradata UDA,"said Matt Morgan, vice president, product and alliance marketing, Hortonworks. "When the Teradata Database and Hortonworks Data Platform (HDP) are connected with Teradata QueryGrid, it enables access to the latest in community-driven Hadoop innovation."
"Unlike other data discovery vendors, MicroStrategy offers the market a scalable, flexible, reusable analytics platform while also maintaining the 'single version of the truth' necessary to operate an enterprise," said Paul Zolfaghari, president, MicroStrategy Incorporated. "Customers of both Teradata and MicroStrategy will benefit from governed data discovery in a way that's elegant, intuitive and easy-to-use for both business and IT users, and powerful enough for the most demanding organizations."
"Our vision for Hadoop is that it complements key solutions like an integrated data warehouse to deliver real value in big data, in what Teradata calls the Teradata Unified Data Architecture. Cloudera has worked closely with Teradata to ensure that Teradata 15.10 enables Cloudera customers to take full advantage of Teradata products and services such as Teradata adaptive optimizer and Teradata QueryGrid," said Dan Sturman, Ph.D, vice president of Engineering, Cloudera.
"With the ever-expanding database functionality combined with support of the Hadoop infrastructure, Teradata is a leader in providing comprehensive, integrated platforms for SAS analytics, and SAS will continue expanding our advanced analytics capabilities with Teradata Database 15.10," said Craig Rubendall, vice president, Research and Development, SAS.
