Shavlik has launched Shavlik Empower, which it claims is a new cloud-based solution that extends the proven power of Shavlik protection to more users, devices and resources.
“We are thrilled to introduce the Shavlik Empower platform,” said Chris Goettl, senior product manager at Shavlik. “Empower is designed to be everywhere you need it to be. It is purpose-built to manage your users, their devices and be with those users wherever they go. With this solution, Shavlik Empower will bring a new level of perspective to how you view operational and security data.”
Empower aggregates data from Shavlik Protect, Active Directory and other systems — both on and off the network — using its sentinels and agents. This gives IT departments instant access to significantly more information relating to different systems than was previously available. Using Empower’s data, administrators can determine any problems an endpoint might have — from anywhere with an Internet connection. Empower also allows users to see more about their environment and know more about the system before they make critical decisions, uniting operational efficiency and security.
“We are 90 percent Windows today and the Mac population is growing,” said Ben Dadson, IT manager at University of Pennsylvania. “We are trying to bring them back into the fold so they get the benefits our Windows users get. We love the ability to tell the Protect agent to go to the vendor if it cannot see the console. I have been evaluating Empower because of this ability with the Mac OS X.”
Empower also brings users the following added benefits:
· Support for Mac. For the first time, Shavlik now provides support for Mac with Empower. This support includes Mac OS X inventory and patch support with an Empower-based agent, asset inventory and patch management for Mac.
· Extended cloud integration for Shavlik Protect. Empower also features integration with Shavlik Protect. This integration allows a consolidated, web-based view of patch compliance across Windows and Mac.
· Inventory and Event Timeline. Improved inventory capabilities provide IT professionals with a visual timeline of events on a system, allowing them to visually see configuration drift, manage warranties and gain deeper insight into their software and hardware assets.
