BSA lauds India’s new patent guidelines for examination of CRI

BSA | The Software Alliance welcomes the new patent guidelines for examination of patent applications relating to Computer Related Inventions (CRIs), including patents on software innovations. BSA looks forward to working with ministries of jurisdiction to foster uniformity and consistency in the examination of patent applications.

“We commend India’s Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry for developing patent examiner guidelines that recognize the importance of software innovation and the intrinsic value that patents provide,” said BSA President and CEO Victoria Espinel. “Since a substantial portion of exports from India are software led, it is only prudent that the government encourage the patenting of software-implemented inventions — both to protect one of its leading industries and to draw in international investment. These new guidelines will nurture India’s software industry by ensuring the availability of legal protections that will spur innovation.”
