The Association of Professional Wireless Production Technologies (APWPT), announced that it will host a Program Making and Special Event (PMSE) user meeting on 30 August, 2015 at the Meydan Hotel in Dubai to discuss the all- important subject of spectrum allocation and management for wireless PMSE devices and enter into meaningful and productive conversations with the national government and local PMSE users in the UAE.
APWPT is an international not-for-profit organisation that represents users and manufacturers of wireless production tools, so called SAB/SAP or PMSE - Wireless Microphones, Cameras and Effect Control. Sennheiser Group, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of microphones, headphones and wireless transmission systems, is a founding member of APWPT and supports the organization in its worldwide engagement.
PMSE is the generic term which covers an extensive range of wireless production tools used for art, culture, conferences, trade fairs, entertainment applications, education, sport events and many other purposes. Professional event production requires a lot of frequencies (radio spectrum) to run wireless microphones, In Ear Monitoring, audio links, intercom, wireless video cameras and wireless data links for remote control management of lighting and sound. Today available spectrum becomes scarcer and scarcer. As a result, radio frequency spectrum allocation for wireless PMSE devices is critical in order to mitigate the potential impact of reduced operational bandwidth on the flourishing Culture and Creative industry, which is a significant contributor to the economy.
Matthias Fehr, President of APWPT says, “To ensure the further growth of the tourism and hospitality industry here in the UAE, it is important to preserve the frequency resources necessary for the production of events. Not doing so will have catastrophic consequences for all upcoming events such as the Asian Cup 2019 as well as the EXPO 2020. We at APWPT would like to present information we have learned in similar talks in other countries and during our work in a large number of international working groups including ITU, CEPT and ETSI.”
APWPT members will take part in the WRC-15 conference taking place in November this year in Geneva, Switzerland as an ITU-R sector member or as representatives in international delegations. Before WRC, APWPT intends presenting important and helpful information at the user meeting in Dubai on the following topics:
The application PMSE and example of their typical local spectrum regulations.
The effect of spectrum changes in the 700 MHz band following to next WRC.
Alternative radio spectrum for PMSE as a matter for the next WRC and
PMSE as an object of science, study groups and manufacturers.
