For security practitioners around the world, the proliferation of the Internet of Things introduces many complexities that can strain enterprise security and infrastructures. To help professionals ensure their enterprises are protected, global IT association ISACA is offering a free webinar, Securing Smart Devices: Cybersecurity in the Age of the Internet of Things, on Thursday, 25 June, at 09:30 PM IST.
According to ISACA’s 2014 IT Risk/Reward Barometer, more than half of people’s wish lists include connected devices (58%). And, 43% of global respondents say their organization has plans in place to leverage the Internet of Things or expects to create plans in the next 12 months. However, the majority is not ready for such things as wearable technology in the workplace. More than half (56%) say their “bring your own device” (BYOD) policy does not address wearables and a further 23% do not even have a BYOD policy in place.
“With the increase of connected devices, which includes anything from smoke detectors to thermostats to wearable devices that employees are bringing in, businesses need to be aware of all of the connected entry points into the enterprise,” said Christos K. Dimitriadis, Ph.D., CISA, CISM, CRISC, international president of ISACA and group director of Information Security for INTRALOT. “Enterprises need to be prepared so they can take advantage of these great technologies, but remain as secure as possible.”
