As the company continues to grow at a fast pace, robust cloud network will endow Snapdeal with the ability to rapidly scale-up operational capabilities. Gaurav’s appointment to head the cloud services function is in line with company’s efforts towards building specialized domain strengths.
Technology is at the core of Snapdeal and the company has been investing heavily to strengthen it further. Snapdeal has one of the largest cloud deployments in India and the company expects to more than quadruple its infrastructure in the next year or so. Snapdeal’s next generation cloud platform will change the way applications are run and managed in the data centers.
The technology team at Snapdeal is currently 1000 people strong and company looks at doubling it by the end of this year. The company has also made a few senior hires in this team who will play a key role in building a future ready and innovative platform. Bhuvan Gupta and Jeyendran Venugopal recently joined the Snapdeal family as Vice President – Engineering and Technology Advisor respectively.
Gaurav Gupta comes with over 13 years of experience in building enterprise products. He has spent over a decade in Silicon Valley and has worked with many start-ups and large organizations like Cisco, Symantec etc. His experience ranges from building a storage virtualization switch, a hybrid cloud platform to the industry's first enterprise database load balancer. In his last role, he was the India Head and VP -Engineering at ScaleArc, a Bay area start-up. Speaking about his appointment, Gaurav Gupta said “Snapdeal’s growth in the technology domain, well-past the start-up phase, has been unprecedented and I believe that the subsequent level of innovation will happen here. In the new cloud platform the underlying infrastructure would be completely abstracted away from the applications and the workloads would get dynamically assigned and reassigned to run on the data center depending on real-time signals from the application. I am excited to be a part of the young and dynamic team of Snapdeal and look forward to inculcate the Silicon Valley culture of disruptive innovation and cross fertilization of ideas.”
Welcoming the new team member of the technology team, Rohit Bansal, Co-founder Snapdeal said “Snapdeal is relentlessly working towards creating life changing experiences for buyers and sellers in an industry where technology will be key to success. It is our stated plan to bring talented Indians from across the globe back to India, because we can provide the right set of opportunities in building technology that’ll make our country a better place.
