Pratilipi is an interesting self-publishing platform headed by an energetic young team of 7 people. Headed by Ranjeet Pratap Singh who is the CEO and handles all growth-related activities, Pratilipi is a two-sided platform connecting Indian language writers and readers. In less than 8 months the platform has published over 3,600 content pieces written by 550+ writers which have been read more than 250,000 times.
“We are very strongly knit team of 7 people, Sankar and Shally reach out to authors, understand their motivations and constraints and help them in understanding our proposition. Prashant and Rahul are our tech wizards, while Gaurav and Nitish have just joined to help us build our mobile Apps. We are backed by Times Internet and are helped and advised by some of India's best authors as well as some amazing mentors from different domains,” elaborates Ranjeet Pratap Singh, Co-Founder and CEO of Pratilipi.
The platform is aimed at making vernacular content available on the internet through this platform so that when more number of people from rural India embark upon the internet, they do not have dearth of literary content. The platform is only aimed at authors and readers of Hindi and other vernacular languages. It allows authors to self-publish.
“More than 70 million Indians already access Internet in vernacular languages -and this number is set to grow exponentially-, and yet apart from news there is a dearth of vernacular content. It isn't that there aren't people who are creating great vernacular content, it is, that there is no bridge connecting the content creators and the readers,” says Ranjeet.
He further tells The Data Driver, “We at Pratilipi are trying to become that bridge, in less than 8 months. We already have more than 550 writers from 8 countries who have published over 3,500 content pieces on the platform whereas on the reader side we are serving over 100K user sessions every month and this is just a very humble beginning.”
