Canon
launched its fifth edition of Photomarathon in India. The event took
place at Good Shepherd's auditorium, Museum Road, Bengaluru on
September 27, 2014 and attracted large number of photo enthusiasts,
primarily DSLR users, hobbyist photographers as well as
professionals. The Photomarathon is a uniquely designed event
organised by Canon to promote photography culture through theme based
healthy competition.
The
Canon Photomarathon is a daylong event that brings together
photographic talents from across India. This event is also organized
by Canon in countries like Indonesia, Cambodia, China, Hong Kong,
Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand & Vietnam.
Speaking
about the event, Dr. Alok Bharadwaj, Executive Vice President, Canon

of youngsters taking up DSLR cameras and unleashing their creative

Talking
about the event, Mr. Andrew Koh, Senior Director, Image Communication

year to recognize the talent in seeing the world through photography.
Therefore, events like Photomarathon provide just the right platform
for photographers to showcase their skills.”
The
format of Canon Photomarathon 2014 required each contestant to shoot
pictures within limited timeframe on given themes: Tranquillity and
Chaos. Themes were announced just before the event began which made
it even more competitive. The pictures were judged by well-known
photographers based on their creative, technical and narrative sense.
The highlight of the event was The Grand prize- the Photoclinic, that
includes attending a, once-in-a-lifetime photography tour led by
experts to selected destinations around the world which was won by
Vivek Mathur. Jackson Johnson and Jayaprathab Mathuraiveeran won the
second and third prize respectively and got Canon DSLR cameras,
exclusive Canon merchandize, and 10, 1 year subscriptions to the
Adobe Creative Cloud Photography plan. There were also exciting
theme-based prizes won.
The
3 judges for the event were Bengaluru based Advertising & Fashion
Photographer Mr. Waseem Khan, widely published Macro Photographer &
Director NICC Bangalore Dr. Akash Rose and most sought after Wedding
& Lifestyle Photographer Ms. Neeta Shankar.
Other
attractions at the Photomarathon 2014 included 2 seminars, delivered
by noted wildlife photographer Mr. Sudhir Shivaram, and HOD
Photography at NICC Bangalore, Mr. Jeevan Pathare, as well as an
equipment cleaning camp organized for participants. In addition to
this, Canon select DSLRs and lenses were also on display, for
participants to get a feel and hands-on. Also on display for the 1st
time to Indian audiences was the much awaited EOS 7D Mark II which
was announced on the 15th of September.
