dunnhumby to host hackathon in Gurgaon on March 22

dunnhumby, the world’s leading customer science company, is going to hold a one-day hackathon on Saturday, March 22, in Gurgaon, for anyone with a passion for data science, data modelling, and statistics. The event, with a cash prize of Rs 250,000, is meant to help identify the data scientists of tomorrow by spotting youngsters who enjoy crunching numbers to generate unique insights.

“This is a great opportunity for us to bring together the best data science minds in the Delhi-NCR region and see what they can achieve in a time-pressured environment. We look forward to seeing how the greatest minds and students in the region creatively resolve complex data science challenges. This also represents a great way to discover great prospective talent for dunnhumby." said Yael Cosset, Chief Information Officer, dunnhumby.

The event will see a mix participation of students from various engineering colleges of Delhi as well as professionals with 2-5 years of experience competing individually or in teams of up to three members. Their challenge is to develop a product that will help a failing retail business identify ways to transform into a profitable venture by leveraging the power of data.

The challenge would be in two parts. The first would be to create the most robust and high-performing database / data mart to satisfy the needs of the business. In the second challenge, the participants would have to choose one or more tasks to be implemented on the database / data mart created for the challenge one.

Domain and data experts will be on hand to answer any questions that they may have.

Participants will be scored for Design, Data Structure and Quality of output and the logic/rationale behind the approach.
