Light Chasers joins hands with Canon India


Light Chasers, in an association with Canon India, completed the first part of India Kliks—an International photography event and also one of the biggest photography contests for Indian photo enthusiasts. Light Chasers is India’s foremost company specializing in providing a platform for photo aficionados to enhance their skills through varied and versatile programs that take place all across the world. In the words of Jasminder Oberoi, the Director of Light Chasers, "Light Chasers is a pioneer in this fast growing field of photography education and India Kliks is an initiative aimed to promote photo culture across India. Light Chasers have associated with Canon for this unique platform for budding photographers to showcase their skills and work in close association with prolific masters so as to get to the top of their game. 

This year's contest theme was BLISS— the ultimate feeling of euphoria. Because an emotion like that can only be appropriately and completely be captured by an ace medium like photography, we decided to extend the platform to people from across the spectrum. For the same, entries were submitted in the form of portraiture, candid shots, shots of street life, culture, nature, landscapes, wildlife and other genres that applicants fancied. 

With no time to waste, India Kliks is gearing up for concluding the current edition of India Kliks at a Symposium from February 14 to February 16 at Dilli Haat, INA, New Delhi. Prizes will be distributed at the symposium itself. During the event, there will be informative talks on photography, in addition to workshops for photo enthusiasts. The event will be thrown open by Dr. Alok Bhardwaj -Executive Vice President of Canon India and the workshop/photo talks/ portfolio reviews will be done by top photographers representing different genres. The mentors will be Anamitra Chakladar, Ashima Narain, Enjo Mathew, Jaminder Oberai, Neeta Shankar, Ravi Dhingra, Sanjay Nanda, Subir Basak and Sudhir Shivaram.

The contest, that was on from August 28 to November 10, attracted more than 5,000 entries from across the world and the jury shortlisted its Top 100, which were then exhibited at the prestigious Taj Literature Festival in Agra. There were prizes for the winners and Shreya Sen from Mumbai won the first prize. Swaroop Balla from Singapore won the second prize the third one was won by Sanghamitra Sarkar from Kolkotta. Consolation prize winners were Ravindra Tanwar, Bidyut Goswami, Sreesailam Pasupula, Chetan Soni, Supriya Biswas, Ketan Majumdar and Shreenivasan Manievannan. All of these were sponsored by Canon India and co-sponsored by Vanguard, Tatonka, Pugdundee Safaris and Light Chasers.

It is noteworthy that the jury comprised renowned photographers Anamitra Chakladar, Ashima Narain, Enjo Mathew, Kirat Sodhi, Neeta Shankar, Pankaj Anand, Subir Basak and Sudhir Shivaram.
