Cisco Organizes Panel Discussion on ‘Girls in ICT’ to Encourage Women in IT Sector


Cisco organized a special panel discussion to celebrate ‘Girls in ICT‘at Shaheed Rajguru College of Applied Sciences for Women, Vasundhra Enclave, Delhi on Thursday, 9th January, 2014. An initiative of Cisco’s Network Academy program, the event is aimed at building a global environment to empower and encourage young women to consider careers in the field of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). Around 800 adolescent girls and young women within Delhi and NCR interacted with panelists that consisted of ICT professional from companies, government agencies and academic institutions to better understand the opportunities the ICT sector holds for their future.

The primary objectives of the event are to celebrate women in ICT, promote ICT as a career option and to enable women to make an informed choice.  With an emphasis on promoting ICT as a good career choice with strong possibilities for employment and professional growth, the event included discussions on smart strategies for women to thrive in technology, to overcome the barriers to a lasting career, diversity in the workplace and how women are instrumental to the success of the organization.

The session was well received by the young women who were motivated to be a part of the technology that is revolutionizing the world. The panel consisted of eminent speakers such as Ms. Rashmi Singh (Executive Director NMEW), Dr. Niloufer Shroff (Head of Division, Photonics Development Division), Ms. Diksha Mishra (Enterprise Technical / Solution Consultant at Adobe System), Ms. Suruchi Wadhwan (System Engineer at Cisco Systems), Ms. Anuradha Sharma (Program Manager-Social Innovation Group at Cisco Systems) among others.
